The Princess of Wales is a recognised style icon around the globe and has carved out a leading name for herself in the fashion world. The Princess often turns heads in her carefully curated ensembles and has followed in the footsteps of her mother-in-law Diana, Princess of Wales.
Kate, 43, is making a gradual return to her royal duties after she received preventative chemotherapy treatment for her cancer diagnosis last year. Princess Kate’s image has undergone a significant transformation by ditching her former signature look and creating a comeback wardrobe.
After studying her recent ensembles, it is hard not to address the similarities between her and Meghan Markle.

Neutral tones
Princess Kate has opted for more neutral tones - Meghan Markle donned her brown coat in 2019 (Image: Getty )
Over the past few months, we have seen the Princess swap her go-to statement coats for blazers and opt for simple designs instead of bold dresses. This new understated choice of outwear signals a new era for the Princess of Wales.
Following an announcement from Kensington Palace, Kate reportedly wants to let her work take centre stage, as opposed to interest instantly turning to what she chooses to wear. As a result, it is clear that she understands the power she has and is using her fashion as a communicator.
The Princess also seems to be leaning towards more neutral tones in her wardrobe, which is a colour palette Meghan regularly adopts.

Relaxed silhouettes

In their self-titled Netflix docuseries, Meghan explained why she rarely wore colour. “I wore a lot of muted tones, but it also was so I could just blend in,” she said.
Kate has placed a recent focus on colours like beige, camel, deep burgundies, and rich browns which was seen on her when she visited a women's prison last month. This choice emphasises her presence rather than her look.
Regardless of the event, the Princess usually puts her best fashion foot forward and adds a touch of glamour, however in recent weeks, she has gone for more relaxed outwear. Back in February the Princess headed to the National Portrait Gallery with a group of children as a part of her early years project.
She donned a brown blazer, black turtleneck, and grey pinstripe trousers for the day out - which was very similar to a style seen by Meghan last year when she visited a school in Columbia with her husband Prince Harry.

Simple designs

The Princess of Wales is going for a more refined and understated aesthetic which Meghan is also known for.
She is favouring well-cut blazers, wide-leg trousers, and structured midi skirts, opting for pieces that are both elegant and timeless.
In 2018 Meghan attended the Well Child’s Awards with Prince Harry, 40, and wore an Altuzarra suit which had a modern minimalist feel. Fast forward to Holocaust Memorial Day and Princess Kate went for an almost identical sombre look that featured a similar tailored jacket and matching trousers.
